Not even bad weather of near biblical proportions could keep the cougars from leading the field at the SCTP regionals on May 1st. The other half of the middle Tennessee (Region 2) region got rained out in Montgomery county but we managed to get in all of our squads except for the Rookies who got their rounds cut short by torrential rain. They finished up their rounds on the following Friday (May 7th). The result of our endurance was two first place trophies and a fourth place. The complete results are available at the following URL:
Congratulations to our Intermediates who won 1st place honors in the Region and also to the Rookies who also won first place in the Region. In addition to the Big Springs awards that they recieved on the day of the shoot, they will also recieve awards from TNSCTP at the state tournament on June 4th in Montgomery county.
On the following weekend (May 8th) the cougar teams hit the trap line again trying to win honors in the AIM Souther Zone Shoot. Since it is a zone shoot, each team only had to shoot registered targets at the gun club of their choice and then the results were submitted online. I have not see any results yet but I expect them to me made available around May 17th. While our squads were shooting for awards against all the other AIM teams in the southeastern US, they were also completeing for the loacal AIM awards like normal. Again our Rookies put on a show by shooting an incredible 429! I am sure they will earn some recongnition in the zone shoot for that score as well. Also the Intermediate Advanced #1 squad posted a 444 and won the Sub-Junior event. The Varsity (Junior #1) team lost a heatbreaking tie-breaker for HOA but they still tied for 1st with a 470. Complete scores for the teams that competed at Big Springs can be downloaded usiing the following link:
COMPLETE BIG SPRINGS AIM SHOOT (5/8/2010) RESULTS
Please be sure to check the PHOTOS section for pictures from the past weeks.
Our shooters did a wonderful job in the month of April. Even with limited sleep because of the Junior/Senior Banquet, the varsity squads shot better than I can remember from
recent events. The #1 squad shot an incredible 486 dropping only 14 birds out of 500 targets which averages out to an unbelievable 97.2% per shooter. Also the Intermediate Advanced Squads did very well with the IA#1 squad earning 1st place after winning a tie breaker with Coffee County Middle. In case you don’t know, Big Springs has instituted a “reverse sub-event” tie break method for all the local competitions at Big Springs. This means that if two squads finished tied then the first tie-breaker will be the combined score for round #4, the second tie-breaker is the combined score for round #3, an so on. The IA#1 squad shot a 114 in the last box with bettered Coffee County’s 104 therefore winning the first tie breaker. Our rookie squads also did great, finishing 2nd and 3rd in the rookie division. Great job cougars!
I did some checking on our results so far this year and I cam up with some interesting statistics. So far this year we have been eligible for 14 trophies if you consider the fact that we basically compete in three divisions (HS, JH, Elem) and we have had 4 competitions at Big Springs and one at Marshall Co. that only one V and I squad attended. Out of these 14 “events” we have placed (1st, 2nd, or 3rd) 13 times and we finished 1st an incredible 10 times. That’s outstanding and, in my opinion, cements our claim to being the best comprehensive (all divisions) program in the state.
Be sure to check out the great pictures privided by our great photographers. I really appreciate everyone helping to document the shoots with great pictures. You can view the pictures by clicking on the Photo link. Let me know if you have any picture that you want me to share.
